Naval Architect
Job Description:
To support and provide naval architectural support and expertise for projects (which includes bids, proposals and FEED stages) to ensure project performance targets are achieved safely, environmentally sound and focused on end client requirements.
Job Location: Kuala Lumpur Malaysia
Salary Budget: RM 28000 per month
Responsibilities:
- Report to the Line Manager on project/personal achievements and corporate/section matters.
- When assigned to a project (including live projects, bids and proposals, PREFEED or FEED) report to the Project Lead Naval Architect or Engineering Manager/Project Engineer on progress, setbacks and concerns.
- Interact with the construction team for all Naval related issues
- Carry out calculations, prepare designs/layouts as per project requirements.
- Prepare & review naval design documents/drawings.
- Prepare SOW and evaluate third party consultants
- Coordinate with third party consultants.
- Take part in interdisciplinary meetings during FEED and project execution.
Key Responsibility Areas:
Naval Layouts: GA for hull and machinery space. Tank Capacity Plan. Accommodation and helideck Layout
Calculations: Stability and damage stability report. Preparation of ullage and sounding tables. Tonnage calculations. Preliminary structural calculations. Review of detail design documents (FEM calculations, structural/layout drawings, other calculations)
Packages: Prepare technical specifications for Naval packages. Carry out technical bid evaluations. Discussions with vendors to ensure compliance to project requirements.
Management: Support Head of Naval towards preparation of engineering scope of work for third party.
Interface: Interface discussion with other disciplines during project proposal and project execution. Interface with shipyard construction team during project execution. Prepare weight control report with inputs from all the disciplines
Inspection: Carry out tanker inspection to check the suitability for conversion. Prepare the inspection report.
Qualification and Experience:
- Graduate Engineer -Naval Architecture & Structural.
- Minimum 12 years of experience in oil and gas industry working as Naval Architect
- Prior experience of working of 2-3 FPSO projects covering all phases (FEED, detail engineering, fabrication, sailaway & hookup)
- Demonstrated experience of working in Petrobras major Projects, especially VLCC or beyond ( New Built ) , deep water , large FPSO with more than 100,000 BOPD of Oil Processing and corresponding large Crude storage .
- Aware of Petrobras GTD typical requirements and Brazil Regulatory requirements.
- Good knowledge of stability, hull structural strength calculations, weight management, reporting and monitoring.
Technical Competencies & Skills:
- Minimum Graduate Degree in Naval Architecture
- Very good knowledge of stability software GHS.
- Knowledge of FEM analysis software and any motion analysis software.
- Good knowledge of classification rules and IMO regulations.
Behavioral Competencies Required:
- Right attitude to work as a team player and respect other colleagues.
- Good communication skills and interaction / interface other disciplines
- Excellent project engineering skills such as focused on achieving specifications, work under stress, passion to meet deadline and good commercial awareness.
